It is located between the mountains, among the spruce forests at an altitude of 989 meters above sea level in the northern part of the National Nature Park "Synevyr".
It was formed about 10-11 thousand years ago as a result of the powerful shift of indigenous sandstones that fell from the southern slope of the Krasna Mountain and blocked the ancient valley of the Synevyr stream.
The water level in the lake is constantly changing: it decreases in the winter and raises in spring and summer, and then falls again in the autumn, in accordance with the influx of water from three constant streams and temporary - in the period of intense melting of snow and showers. The amplitude of fluctuations in the water level in the lake reaches 4.0-4.5 m, correspondingly the area of the water mirror changes from 4.45 to 7.58 hectares. The largest depth is from 19 to 23.5 m.
The speed of the lake is provided by the Synevyr stream, flowing 350 m west of the lake under a landslide-shift of 60 m below the level of its ridge mark. The water at Synevyr Lake is fresh. Its temperature is quite low even in the summer and is 10-15⁰C.
Near the mountain reservoir, periodically recorded birds that are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine: stork black, pugach, slobbery small. This site supports the existence of a number of species of species important for the conservation of biodiversity in the region, including lake, river, marsh and forest ecosystems.
